VISIT® Student Insurance Enhanced International Student Health Plans: More Coverage, More Choice, More Confidence

Choosing the right health insurance is an important part of studying in the United States. Students need a plan that not only helps meet insurance requirements but also provides meaningful protection when unexpected medical needs arise.

At VISIT® International Student Insurance, our Enhanced Student Health Plan options give international students a range of coverage choices designed for different needs and budgets. The enhanced lineup includes StudentSecure Select, StudentSecure Elite, UHC BASIC, USCHIP Security, and USCHIP Freedom.

What Makes Our Enhanced Plans Stand Out?

Our enhanced plans provide students with several levels of protection, allowing them to compare benefits, deductibles, copays, and coverage limits before enrolling. Depending on the plan selected, students can access medical maximums of up to $500,000, with USCHIP Freedom also listing an unlimited lifetime maximum. Deductible options range from $0 to $250, depending on the plan.

All five enhanced plans use the UnitedHealthcare PPO network, giving students access to an established network of participating healthcare providers.

Coverage for Everyday and Unexpected Medical Needs

Health insurance isn't only about major hospital stays. Students may need to see a doctor, visit urgent care, fill a prescription, or receive mental health treatment during their studies.

Our enhanced plans offer different levels of coverage for these needs. Depending on the plan, doctor visit copays range from $0 to $75, while urgent care copays range from $0 to $50. The plans also provide varying benefits for inpatient hospitalization and outpatient surgery.

Mental health benefits are also included across the enhanced plan options, although the benefit structure varies by plan. StudentSecure Select, for example, lists up to 30 outpatient visits and 30 inpatient days, while StudentSecure Elite lists up to 40 outpatient visits and 40 inpatient days. UHC BASIC treats mental health as any other illness, while the USCHIP options provide benefits based on their preferred allowance and plan limits.

Prescription Drug and Maternity Benefits

Prescription drug coverage is included in each enhanced plan, with reimbursement levels and limits varying by option. Some plans distinguish between generic and brand-name medications, while the USCHIP plans include prescription benefits through the CVS/Caremark network.

Maternity benefits are also available, with plan-specific maximums and conditions. StudentSecure Select provides a $10,000 maximum, StudentSecure Elite a $15,000 maximum, and UHC BASIC a $5,000 maximum. The USCHIP plans provide maternity coverage based on preferred allowances and include specific provisions for the primary insured and dependent spouses.

Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Benefits

International students may also want protection for emergencies that extend beyond traditional medical treatment. The enhanced plans include repatriation and medical evacuation benefits, although limits vary significantly by plan. For example, StudentSecure Select and Elite list $50,000 in repatriation benefits and $300,000 in medical evacuation coverage, while UHC BASIC lists unlimited benefits for both.

Which Enhanced Plan Is Right for You?

There isn't one plan that's right for every international student. The best choice depends on your budget, expected healthcare needs, school requirements, preferred deductible and the level of financial protection you're looking for.

Students who want a $0 deductible may want to compare StudentSecure Select and StudentSecure Elite. Those looking for different benefit structures can consider UHC BASIC, USCHIP Security, or USCHIP Freedom. Enrollment periods also vary: StudentSecure plans can be purchased from one month to one year, UHC BASIC has a three-month minimum, and USCHIP Security and Freedom have six-month minimums.

Compare Before You Enroll

Understanding your benefits before you need to use them can make a big difference. Compare the medical maximum, deductible, coinsurance, copays, prescription coverage, maternity benefits, mental health coverage, evacuation benefits, and other important features of each plan.
